Additional Class Information
Dojo Etiquette--Our "Golden Rules"
We expect our students to maintain a high level of respect at all times to Instructors, fellow students and other people.
When entering our dojo, we ask students to bow because:
- It is a promise of respect
- It puts you into the right frame of mind for your training.
Arrive to your classes on time, and place your shoes and jackets neatly in the dressing room.
Keep your uniform clean and pressed.
No jewelry or chewing gum is allowed during class because it can accidently hurt you or someone else.
Colors of Character
Villari's Colors of Character program was created to balance children's physical development with the concepts of Self Control, Respect, and Self Discipline.
The program consists of a series of exercises designed to help parents instill and strengthen their child's understanding of these core character traits. As the student progresses through the ranks, the assignments become more involved.
Each exercise is reviewed in class, and when completed, children are awarded a colored bar to affix to their Colors of Character patch. There are colored bars, which correspond to the colored belt ranks. Students can complete exercises up to one color above the belt they wear. |

Missed Classes
Missed classes may not be deducted from the tuition. In the unfortunate case of prolonged illness or injury, arrangements can be made to help the students catch up with the class. There are no make-ups for scheduled closings or closings due to inclement weather.
Graduation
Advancement to the next rank is designed to be a confidence-building milestone. Once a student has completed the requisite physical and character skill exercises, they are invited to participate in graduation. The student will receive notification approximately ten days prior to the graduation date. Graduation fees are due in advance of the date.
Family and friends are invited to accompany students at the ceremony.
Graduations are administered by a visiting Senior Instructor to provide an unbiased assessment of our student's skills and progress.
Belt Ranking System
Belts provide challenging, but attainable short term goals toward reaching the long term goal of Black Belt excellence.
In Villari's system, each belt has a specific curriculum and time requirement which slowly increases with each rank.
The time required to achieve Black Belt varies by individual. Most students will complete the curriculum in three to five years. In addition to the ranks shown, there are advanced levels to the Blue and Green belts.
There are three levels of Brown Belt and ten degrees of Black Belt. The 10th degree Black Belt is worn by the system's Grand Master, Frederick J. Villari. |
Demo and S.T.O.R.M. Teams
Villari's Demonstration Team consists of students selected by our instructors for both skill and commitment. Members are required to make all practices and attend any scheduled events.
Student Team of Role Models (S.T.O.R.M.) Teams consist of selected individuals who show demonstrate Self Control, Respect, and Self Discipline. These students train in leadership and teaching skills, eventually becoming peers for our newer students to relate to and emulate.
